Biology graduate students, Alexandra Gulick and Renato Bruno, win awards at the International Sea Turtle Symposium

Department of Biology graduate students, Alexandra Gulick and Renato Bruno (Bjorndal Lab / Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research), received awards for their presentations at the International Sea Turtle Symposium!

Newly minted PhD, Dr. Alexandra Gulick, received the award for Best Student Poster for her presentation titled “Recovery of a cultivation grazer: A mechanism for compensatory growth in a Caribbean seagrass meadow grazed by green turtles”. Alexandra recently defended her dissertation, which focused on green turtle grazing dynamics and foraging behavior in Caribbean seagrass ecosystems.

PhD student, Renato Bruno, won the runner-up award for Best Student Talk for his presentation titled “Gonadal dynamics of northwest Atlantic green turtles foraging off Nicaragua”. Renato went above and beyond, presenting a talk and poster, and was an author on several other posters produced by his non-profit, Turtle Love.
