Assistant Professor in Biology Awarded NSF Grant to Study Evolution of Shark Skin Teeth

Dr. Gareth Fraser, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology, was awarded a new National Science Foundation (NSF) grant through the Integrative Research in Biology (IntBIO) program to study the evolution of shark skin teeth from genotype to phenotype to prototype. This work, in collaboration with scientists at Harvard and Yale, will link the fields of deep time, development, and design to understand how shark skin denticles are made, shaped, and patterned in life to provide a new framework for advances in engineering.
