Each year the International Center and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recognize the accomplishments of international students and faculty at the University of Florida. This year members of Biology received many of these special awards. Tom Hladish, Ph.D. won a Junior Faculty International Educator for the Year Award for his efforts in teaching epidemiology and software engineering in Ghana, Cuba, and Peru. Scott Cinel (Kawahara Lab) won a Research Abroad for Doctoral Students (RAD) grant to support his research in Panama. Gregory Jongsma (Blackburn Lab) won the Alec Courtelis Scholarship for his research on amphibians. Shweeta Chhajed (Chen Lab), Maria de Souza Cortez (P. Soltis Lab), Jessica Farrell (Martindale Lab), Johanna Jantzen (Soltis’ Lab), Alexis Lanza (Seaver Lab), Chuwei Lin (Harmon Lab), and Min Zhao (Kimball Lab) all received Certificates of Outstanding Merit.
