Biology Professor Receives Honorary Doctoral Degree

Biology Professor Robert Holt received an honorary doctoral degree from the University of Helsinki. He was chosen for this honor by the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Helsinki for his pioneering work in theoretical ecology.   “Through the honorary doctorates, faculties wish to recognize professors and significant social and cultural figures with exceptional merits in their field on an international scale.” The honorary degree was presented at an elaborate 3-day conferment ceremony that included the wearing of the doctoral hat and sword (pictured with his wife, Lynne).  The conferment ceremony, which only occurs on special occasions, marked the centennial celebration of the establishment of Finland as an independent state.
