Distinguished Professor of Biology Doug Soltis was elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Membership in the NAS recognizes “distinguished and continuing achievements in original research” and is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science. It is considered one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive. The NAS was established by an Act of Congress in 1863 and is charged with providing independent, objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology.
