Biology

Application Checklist

COMPLETE BY DECEMBER 1st

  1. Review the list of Faculty and reach out to prospective advisors to be certain that they are taking students this coming year. The Biology Department is a “direct admit” program, meaning our students do not do rotations but rather are admitted to a particular lab. The PI of the lab plays a critical role in guiding graduate student applications through the admissions process, so it is essential that you contact them in advance of the application deadline, and name them in your essay.
  2. Contact prospective advisors. Ideally this should be done before the deadline.
  3. Apply online to the graduate school, including the following components.
    • Official Transcripts.
    • 1 “Statement of Purpose” Essay (no 2nd “Fellowship” essay is needed. See additional information).
