Biology faculty elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Congratulations to Distinguished Professors of Biology Doug and Pam Soltis who have been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  The American Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1780 and is “… one of the country’s oldest learned societies and independent policy research centers, convening leaders from the academic, business, and government sectors to respond to the challenges facing—and opportunities available to—the nation and the world.”  Doug and Pam were recognized for their contributions to evolutionary biology.  Doug’s research involves building the green plant tree-of-life, i.e. understanding the evolutionary relationships among plants, which is crucial to ecology, agriculture, and conservation. Pam conducts research on plant biodiversity, angiosperm phylogeny, polyploidy, and conservation genetics of rare plant species.  For more detail see:  https://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/science/pam-and-doug-soltis-elected-to-american-academy-of-arts-and-sciences/
