BS Degree Course Substitutions

BS Degree Course Substitutions

  1. Students work with their graduate faculty advisor to select graduate coursework relevant to masters research.
  2. Graduate courses and their undergraduate degree requirement substitutions are proposed on the Combination Degree Request Form. Students can establish a joint advising appointment with Biology major undergraduate advisor and graduate coordinator to determine appropriate course substitutions.
  1. Graduate Coordinator signs Combination Degree Request Form.
  1. Undergraduate Coordinator signs Combination Degree Request Form.
  1. Combination Degree Request Form is signed by student’s undergraduate College.
  1. Combination Degree Request is filed with Office of University Registrar.
  1. Any changes to graduate coursework after the form is filed, must be noted on a new Combination Degree Request Form, signed and sent to Registrar.

* Graduate coursework substituted for undergraduate degree requirements must be consistent with the learning outcomes of the specific BS degree program track.

Biology Major, Pre-Professional Track (CALS and CLAS)

Up to 12 credits may be substituted with graduate coursework towards the approved additional life science electives and core coursework in genetics, microbiology/cell biology, and physiology may be substituted with analogous, higher-level graduate coursework.

Biology Major, Applied Biology Track (CALS)

Up to 12 credits of the minimum 21 credits of approved applied biology electives may be substituted with graduate coursework.

Biology Major, Biotechnology Track (CALS)

Up to 12 credits of graduate courses may be substituted for approved biotechnology electives and core coursework in genetics, microbiology, cell biology, and evolution may be substituted with analogous, higher-level graduate coursework.

Biology Major, Natural Science Track (CALS)

Up to 12 credits of the minimum 21 credits of approved natural science electives may be substituted with graduate coursework.

Botany Major, Botanical Research Track (CALS and CLAS)

Up to 12 credits of core coursework in genetics, evolution, plant taxonomy, plant physiology, cell biology, and biodiversity may be substituted with analogous, higher-level graduate coursework.
